Way, way back in the fading months of 2007 as the sun began to wane on another gaming year and gamers everywhere were bunkering down and preparing their beach defences for the coming Christmas rush, developers Infinity Ward did something unexpected.
Modern Warfare 2 is the sequel to the much hyped, yet astoundingly brilliant, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
As many may know, the Call of Duty series (which spans about four games if you count spin offs) was always exclusively set during World War II and this is where Infinity Ward breaks the mould by stepping into the unfamiliar territory of modern times.
The feel and spectacle of the new theatres that the modern manifestation of disagreements presents was awe inspiring to a generation that was rapidly becoming jaded with WWII first person shooters (and there had been a lot).
In 2008, some of the lessons learnt from this plunge into the modern era was used in Call of Duty: World at War (which was a return to the WWII era of aggression) but thankfully this November we will be receiving another tasty spoonful of modern style shooting action.
The game is set a few years after the events of Modern Warfare with playable characters from then appearing albeit as non-playable characters.
Promotions have been handed out due to the outstanding performances seen in Modern Warfare and now Sergeant 'Soap' Mac Tavish is now a captain in the Special Air Service.
Mac Tavish will be leading (that is leading you) a special forces group while trying to prevent the resurgence of a Russian ultra-nationalistic organisation.
For this task you will be jetting off to Russian mountains, deserts in Afghanistan and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
Graphics look blooming sweet and a great deal of vehicle sections can also be expected (one demo shows a fast paced snow speeder section).
Save your pennies now for what will undoubtedly be a must buy.
