The eReader is one of this year's hottest gadgets and the Sony Reader comes in two flavours, the Pocket Edition being smaller, more compact and kinder on the purse strings.
You can get a touchscreen version for €289 but the €199 Pocket Edition is a nice price and comes in eye-pleasing rose or silver.
The compact 5-inch screen displays sharp, crisp text and you can set it up to read vertically or horizontally. Due to the nature of the e-ink technology used there is a slight refresh on display when turning pages but the advantage of e-ink is that you won't get eye strain as you will from starign at a computer screen for a long period and it reads well in direct sunlight.
Unlike the Amazon Kindle, the Sony Reader allows you to read several different file formats including PDFs, text files, RTF, Word and BBeB Book files by dragging and dropping these into the Reader software for your computer.
It weighs a mere 220g and holds up to 350 eBooks and with a fully-charged battery you should get up to two weeks of reading on a single charge, or approximately 7,000 page turns.
My favourite thing about this little gadget is the fact that it literally fits into the palm of your hand and will even fit into most jacket and coat pockets. Indispensible for long boring plane ot train journeys.
