Max Payne coming winter 2009

It had been six long years since Max Payne 2 was released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2 and PC, and with a disappointing film adaption starring Mark Wahlberg, the arrival of another sequel by the end of the year is welcome news.

Max Payne was a great combination of film noir/graphic novel stylisation mixed with ground-breaking special effects - in fact, it was one of the first video games to bring in the Matrix-style animation of stop-motion and multiple camera angles.

No news has been given about the new sequel, save for the fact that it is in production, but let's hope it will retain its film noir feel, while packing the punches with great sound and visual effects.

However, with Rockstar, the makers of Grand Theft Auto, at the helm I'm sure we can expect buckets of atmosphere and plenty of gritty realism.

"We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game. This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever," said Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games.

A liberal pinch of Bruce Willis from the Die Hard series perhaps?
