And the Nobel Prize goes to ... the internet?
12.03.2010

A record number of 237 individuals and organisations have been nominated for the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize and sitting proudly amongst them is the internet.
Technology pays a large part in the nominations this year as three founders of the web, Tim Berners-Lee, Larry Roberts and Vint Cerf, have also been nominated.
The Nobel Peace Prize nomination for the internet has been given support by 2003 Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi as well as Nicholas Negroponte, the founder of the OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) 'US$100 laptop' project to supply affordable technology to schoolchildren in developing economies worldwide.
Usually, a specific person wins the Nobel Peace Prize, last year's recipient being US President Barack Obama. The prize comes with US$1.4bn so should 'the internet' win it isn't very clear how it can claim its cash prize.
