Books outnumber games in iPhone app downloads

It looks as though Apple's decision to launch the iBookstore later this year is spot-on because according to mobile analytics firm Mobclix, books now outnumber games as the biggest category on the App Store.
This is apparently the first time in App Store history that this has happened: previously games had been the top genre. Mobclix reports that there are now more than 26,000 book apps in the App Store in comparison to the 25,000 games apps.
Meanwhile, other genres fall well below this with about 17,000 entertainment apps and something in the region of 10,000 relating to education.
One of the most downloaded books apps for the iPhone is actually the Amazon Kindle app: this free application allows users to download e-books from Amazon.com and sync their books, notes and bookmarks across with the Kindle device and desktop app, too.
The top free downloads in the books category in Ireland - after the Kindle - are: 101 Classic Novels, Audiobooks, Best Jokes 500 and Stanza, which is another e-book platform, like the Kindle app.
Top paid apps in this category include Dr Seuss' The Cat in the Hat, the LDS Scriptures App, which features biblical scriptures as well as hymn sheets, a fitness book called SixPack App Pro, and Classics, which features classic novels.

This comes as no surprise to me. There are billions of books and all you have to do to make an app for one is copy it line for line. A game takes more coding, planning, testing, etc. I personally own the Stanza app and I LOVE it! I do app reviews on my Website. Here is one of the Placepop app: http://www.yourwiseguy.com/?p=607
