05.03.2010

Announced last July, the Rock Band Network is a platform to encourage bands, studios and record labels to get their music up onto the Xbox 360 and PS3. Today, MTV Networks has opened up the online music store so that fans can discover and download new music this way.
Artists can upload their music for Rock Band players to download
Artists interested in submitting their songs to the Rock Band Network Music Store can pick from multiple pricing tiers for individual tracks and they receive a royalty of 30pc of the selling price.
"The response to and interest in the Rock Band Network has been even greater than we originally expected," said Alex Rigopulos, CEO and co-founder of Harmonix Music Systems.
There are more than 100 songs on the music store from bands including The Shins, The Hold Steady, Lacuna Coil and Steve Vai with 300 more artists - including the Smashing Pumpkins -in the pipeline.
This adds to the existing original Rock Band platform that has more than 1,100 tracks for download.
"The Rock Band Network Music Store gives artists at any level the opportunity to reach new fans through our deeply engaging interactive platform," said Paul DeGooyer, senior vice-president of Electronic Games and Music for MTV Networks Music Group.
"This new pathway for discovery is a huge win for passionate music fans, as well as an opportunity for artists to promote themselves while positively impacting their bottom line."
