Nintendo's DSi XL will compete with e-readers

Nintendo's bigged-up DS may be placed well as a better gaming device with a 93pc bigger screen than the current model, but it also puts the new XL squarely in the e-book reader category.

Nintendo has already seen this market moving with the announcement of the Apple iPad as well as the recent Kindle XL and on 14 June it will be releasing 100 Classic Books, bringing Shakespeare, Austen and more classics of English literature to the handheld games console.

Transforming the XL into an e-book reader, 100 Classic Books will allow for more downloads via Wi-Fi, bookmark placement and adjustment of text size.

As reported previously on Gadgetrepublic.com, the Nintendo DSi XL will go on sale from 5 March and Amazon.co.uk pricing puts it at UK£149.99 (€169).
