Apple releases Aperture 3

Apple's new release of its photo-editing and management software Aperture today comes with more than 200 new features, including Faces and Places, which were introduced first in iPhoto 09.

With Faces, you can organise your image library by the people that appear in them, and with Projects you can view faces from specific projects.

Places enables organisation of image collections by location simply by dragging and dropping the images onto a map or using the GPS co-ordinates recorded in GPS-enabled cameras or the iPhone.

Aperture 3 editing tools

Aperture 3 also has new editing tools, including Brushes, for painting image adjustments onto particular parts of your photo, and Adjustment Presets for applying professional photo effects in one click.

"Millions of people love using iPhoto to organise, edit and share their digital photos," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide product marketing.

"Aperture 3 is designed for both professionals who edit and manage massive libraries of photos and iPhoto users who want to take their photos further with easy-to-use tools such as Brushes and Adjustment Presets."

Aperture 3 is available through the Apple Store, and Apple Authorised Resellers for a suggested retail price of €199 (inc VAT) and existing Aperture users can upgrade for a suggested retail price of €99 (inc VAT).
