Modern Warfare 2 tops Christmas games charts

Thank goodness there's no X-Factor versus disestablishmentarianism in the games charts, no overly-groomed future TV presenters about to be knocked off their Portacabin pedestals - it's good old fashioned first person shooters fighting it out with sports and casual games.

No surprise really that the record-breaking Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has taken the No. 1 Christmas spot in the UK this year - it's been at the top for six weeks now.

However, Fifa 10 knocked Assassin's Creed II out of second place in the last few weeks although Assassin's Creed still tops the PlayStation 3 charts.

Third place gives Nintendo a look-in as the Wii Fit Plus made it in there followed by Wii Sports Resort at number four, showing how much casual gaming has grown in the last year.

Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed 2 did manage to make it to number five in Chart-Track's list of best-sellers and Nintendo dominated again, taking the sixth and seventh places with Mario & Sonic at Olympic Winter Games and New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

Forza Motorsport 3 came in at number eight while Mario Kart Wii, taking the No. 9 slot, still managed to sell well all year and Ubisoft's rhythmic Just Dance made it in at No. 10.
