Facebook users protest homepage changes
27.10.2009

Popular social-networking site Facebook modified Friday its news-feed feature on members' homepages so they can catch up on news that passed them by while off-site, but it looks as if it hasn't gone over very well.
A flood of Facebook members have put their stamps of disapproval on the change, via groups such as 'Change Facebook Back to Normal', which has claimed more than a million members.
"Change it back cause this one is stupid!!!" exclaimed user Ciara Nicole Gonzalez.
Member Kathleen Bannister Hardenburg was a little more explanatory: "I don't care for the new format. It is harder to follow what my friends are doing with the new format. Please change it back."
Switching between feeds
On their homepages, members can now click between a news feed and a live feed. The news feed features items Facebook believes are of most value to members, while the live feed lists everything that is going on with friends.
Facebook made the changes in response to users' feedback. Part of users' ire may be explained in part by the lack of warning they had received about the changes made Friday. Previously, users were informed of any impending changes to the site via a message appearing on their homepages. This time around, news of the changes were mentioned in a hard-to-find - according to The Guardian - blog post.
"Some of you may ask why we are changing the homepage again," Facebook said. "Like you, we know it can be disruptive when things are moved around, but we hope that these changes make Facebook a more valuable experience for you. We put a lot of thought into all the changes we make to the site and do a lot of testing before releasing anything."
